Squash Club Night Finals

The finals for this round of club night concluded last night, 30th September. This has been a competition run over nine weeks, encouraging a bit of competitive spirit amongst all the squash club members. Once again, Thump Sports have come to the party as generous sponsors, supplying some great prizes for the more successful and consistent attentees.

I'm sure most club member's who've attended will join in thanking Waaka Watene for organising the new format for club nights., and keeping it running every week. The feedback around the place is that almost everyone is enjoying the structured competition.

Although this round has finished up, club nights will continue as normal on Mondays. Everyone is welcome to head down for a hit from about 5:30 - 6:00 pm onwards. The club night competition will start up again in October, and run across summer and into 2011. We'll let you know more details closer to the time.

Squash Fundraising Tournament A Success

A massive thank you to all those you turned out and supported our Men's D Grade squash team. The three nights of competition were hard fought and a lot of fun. The men have raised an additional $580 from the tournament to help them cover the cost of heading to Gisborne next week to represent the club and Wellington in the D grade nationals.

We need to thank our tournament sponsors, Thump Sports, who were exceedingly generous in supplying prizes and a beautiful racquet bag to raffle, which everyone wanted (but Byron Mabet won - well done Byron).  Almost every player that turned out and stayed until prize giving on Thursday night got a prize!

A big thank you to Lyn Watene, who gave up her time to be the organiser and tournament controller - and also found some time to do a whole heap of cooking in the kitchen on Thursday night!

Squash Inter-club Finals

Well, Thorndon's had some good results going into the finals of the squash inter-club. The Women's 1 team and the Men's1 and 2 teams are all in the final play offs for 1 and 2. The Thorndon Men's 1 and 2 teams are both in the same division, with Men's 2 topping the ladder and set to play-off against Men's 1.
